The study, published in the journal Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, reveals that the 'benefits' of standing over sitting equate to little more than 9 calories an hour -- the equivalent of just one stalk of celery.

The study looked at data from more than 1,600 participants and found that those who stood to work had a 33% lower risk of developing chronic diseases like heart disease, stroke, and type II diabetes. However, those who stood for at least one hour a day during this same time period had an 18%.
